The DEVIL’S ROAST | Extra-Strong Highly Caffeinated Bold Coffee by Black Donkey Coffee Roasters sounds like a great option for strong coffee lovers who enjoy a bold flavor, with some specific considerations:
Pros:
- Extra-Strong & Highly Caffeinated: Ideal for those who need a powerful caffeine kick and enjoy a bold coffee experience.
- Bold Flavor: Description suggests a robust and intense flavor profile.
- Robusta Coffee: Robusta beans are known for being higher in caffeine than Arabica beans.
- 500g Ground Coffee: Good value for regular coffee drinkers.
- Filter Coffee Grind: Suitable for drip machines and other filter coffee brewing methods.
- Black Donkey Coffee Roasters: Might be a smaller roaster offering potentially unique flavor profiles compared to larger brands.
Cons:
- Pre-Ground: Loses freshness faster than whole beans.
- Robusta Coffee: Robusta beans can have a bitter taste compared to Arabica beans.
- Limited Flavor Description: “Bold Flavor” is a general description.
- Unknown Acidity Level: Reviews might be helpful for understanding the acidity level, which can be important for some coffee drinkers.
Overall, the DEVIL’S ROAST Extra-Strong Coffee could be a good option for you if:
- Enjoy very strong coffee: You prefer a bold and intense coffee experience with a high caffeine content.
- Use a drip machine or filter coffee maker: The grind is suitable for these methods.
- Don’t mind a potentially bitter taste: Robusta beans can be bitter.
However, if you:
- Prefer a more nuanced flavor profile: This coffee might be very bold. Looking at reviews or contacting Black Donkey Coffee Roasters for more details about the specific taste might be helpful.
- Are sensitive to bitter coffee: Robusta beans can be more bitter than Arabica beans.
- Prefer the freshest possible coffee: Consider contacting Black Donkey Coffee Roasters to see if they offer whole bean options.
Here are some additional things to consider:
- Storage: If you buy it, transfer the coffee to an airtight container to maintain freshness for as long as possible.
- Alternatives: Explore other dark roast coffees with high caffeine content from different brands, or consider a blend of Robusta and Arabica beans for a balance of strength and flavor. You can also look for pre-ground coffees specifically designed for drip machines or filter coffee makers if that’s what you use.

The coffee is a bit darker that my usual roast. but I do like a stronger roast from time to time. This tasted OK, but it isn’t my usual coffee and I’m finding I’m a creature of habit. The other thing I noted is the grind was better suited to a filter of rench press and I use an aeropress so prefer a finer grind. That may have been a factor in the overall taste, I couldn’t find a finer grind from the seller but they do supply this blend as beans. Perhaps I need a grinder.
Overall then, a great idea, but I still find I’m drawn back to my usual brand. I will give this another go though, it saves me a few pounds.
