The Carte Noire Espresso Lungo Nespresso Compatible Aluminium Capsules sound like a decent option for Nespresso® Original machine users who enjoy a long espresso (Lungo) made with Arabica beans and a roasted nutty flavor profile. Here’s a breakdown of the pros and cons to help you decide:
Pros:
- Nespresso® Original Compatible: Works with your Nespresso® Original machine for convenient use.
- 100% Arabica Beans: Generally known for their smoother taste and higher acidity compared to Robusta beans.
- Lungo Style: Designed for a longer espresso extraction, resulting in a larger cup with a potentially less intense flavor compared to a traditional espresso.
- Roasted & Nutty Notes: This description suggests a flavor profile that’s balanced and avoids excessive bitterness.
- Intensity 8/10: On Nespresso’s scale, this is a medium-high intensity, offering a good balance between strength and smoothness.
- Rich Texture: Suggests a full-bodied coffee.
- 60 Pod Pack: Provides a reasonable amount of capsules for regular coffee drinkers.
Cons:
- Limited Flavor Description: “Roasted & Nutty Notes” is subjective. Reviews might be helpful for understanding the specific taste profile (acidity, fruit notes, bitterness).
- Nespresso® Pod System Cost: Generally more expensive per cup compared to using fresh ground coffee.
- Aluminum Capsules: Less eco-friendly compared to compostable pods.
Overall, the Carte Noire Espresso Lungo Nespresso Compatible capsules could be a good option for you if:
- Use a Nespresso® Original machine: These pods are compatible with your machine.
- Enjoy Lungo coffees: You prefer a longer espresso with a potentially less intense flavor compared to a traditional espresso shot.
- Appreciate Arabica beans: You prefer the smoother taste profile typically associated with Arabica beans.
- Like a medium-high intensity coffee: You enjoy a balance between strength and smoothness.
However, if you:
- Prefer very specific flavor profiles: More information about the specific roast profile and tasting notes would be helpful. Reviews might be helpful, but they might not be detailed.
- Are on a tight budget: Nespresso® pods are generally more expensive than fresh ground coffee.
- Care about the environment: Aluminum capsules are less eco-friendly than compostable pods.
- Want a stronger espresso: Intensity 8/10 is medium-high, so it might not be strong enough if you prefer a very intense espresso.
Here are some additional things to consider:
- Flavor Profile: Research online reviews to understand the specific taste characteristics of Carte Noire Espresso Lungo capsules, but be aware that details about the specific roast profile and tasting notes might be limited. Look for reviews that mention acidity, body, and bitterness.
- Alternatives: Explore other Nespresso® Original compatible Lungo capsules with detailed flavor descriptions. Consider refillable pod options for your Nespresso® machine if you desire greater control over the coffee, potentially a lower cost per cup, and are even more eco-conscious. You might also find value packs from other brands that offer similar Lungo profiles at a potentially lower cost per capsule.

While the flavor of the coffee is ok, we encountered significant issues with the capsules themselves. Unfortunately, they do not work well with our Nespresso machine. At times, the capsules fail to filter the coffee through entirely, resulting in a frustrating lack of coffee extraction. On other occasions, the coffee only trickles out slowly, leading to prolonged brewing times and less-than-ideal coffee quality.
Overall, the inconsistent performance of these capsules has left us dissatisfied, and we have no intention of purchasing them again.
They may work well for others, but for us this time it was a no.

4 stars because I have to punch it each time. Hopefully Carte Noir can fix it as I don’t have the problem with any other capsules.
