The PG Tips Gold 70 Tea Bags (pack of 6, totaling 420 tea bags) sounds like a luxurious option for black tea lovers who enjoy convenience. Here’s a breakdown of the pros and cons to help you decide if it’s a good fit for you:
Pros:
- Large Quantity (420 Tea Bags): Provides a long-lasting supply for frequent tea drinkers and offers a potentially lower price per cup.
- Indulgent Flavor: Described as “velvety rich,” this tea promises a smooth and luxurious black tea experience.
- Finest Tea Leaves: PG Tips suggests they use high-quality tea leaves for this blend.
- Convenient Tea Bags: Easy and quick to prepare, ideal for busy mornings or on the go.
- Reputable Brand: PG Tips is a well-established British tea brand.
Cons:
- Limited Information: “Velvety rich” is a subjective description. There aren’t details about specific flavor notes.
- Unknown Strength: It’s difficult to know the exact strength without trying it or reading online reviews.
- Tea Bags vs Loose Leaf Tea: Tea bags may not offer the same complexity and flavors as loose leaf tea.
- Potential for Waste: A large number of tea bags creates significant packaging waste.
Overall, PG Tips Gold 70 Tea Bags could be a good option for you if:
- Enjoy a luxurious black tea experience: The description suggests a smooth and rich flavor profile.
- Convenience is a priority: Tea bags are quick and easy to use.
- Drink a lot of tea: The bulk quantity offers a good value.
However, if you:
- Prefer a complex and nuanced tea flavor: Loose leaf tea might be a better choice.
- Want to control the tea strength: Loose leaf tea allows for more control over steeping time and strength.
- Prioritize minimal environmental impact: The large quantity of tea bags creates packaging waste.
- Are concerned about unknown flavors: Reading online reviews about the specific taste might be helpful.
Here are some additional things to consider:
- Research Online Reviews: See what other users mention about the taste, strength, and whether it lives up to the “velvety rich” description.
- Storage: Store the tea bags in a cool, dark, and dry place to maintain freshness.
- Recyclable Packaging: While the packaging might be recyclable, consider ways to minimize waste, like refilling a reusable tin with your tea bags after they’re gone.
I hope this helps you decide whether PG Tips Gold 70 Tea Bags are a good choice for you!

As soon as you open the box you can smell they are more potent than the normal ones. PG recommend a brewing time of 1-2 minutes, but I feel you get a much better flavour if you leave them in for a bit longer. The flavours are amazing, and you can tell your drinking a much higher quality tea, it’s very enjoyable indeed!
Id like to think that most people would prefer these Gold tea bags over normal ones any day, its just whether you think they are worth paying extra for. At around £4 per box the value isn’t too bad, but you don’t get any discount when buying these bulk compared to the individual price.
Overall, I’m more than happy to recommend these tea bags and I will definitely continue buying them, I’ve already had four boxes! Easily worth the full five stars, buy with confidence!

They have a slightly assam-like maltiness to them which you especially notice if drinking it black. They take both regular milk and oat milk well, with the creaminess of oat milk giving a slightly biscuity result that’s really rather pleasant. The colour is rich and while I can’t see what’s so special about the “perfect flavour release”, the bag seems to be made to a strong standard, and it is possible to make a nice strong cuppa very quickly.
There’s a slight aroma shortage. I like my black teas to have a bit of a nose to them- you should be able to smell a cup of tea, not just see it, just ever so slightly, and that doesn’t appear here. But I know many everyday tea drinkers aren’t bothered by that.
People who drink milky tea out of habit without caring about it won’t have any objections to this brew. The PG Tips is just ‘normal’ and they won’t necessarily appreciate there’s anything special about these, as the ‘gold’ aspect of them is definitely subtle. Don’t expect game-changing tea.
At time of writing, this pack of 420 teabags in total is almost 50% more expensive than buying 400 bags of Yorkshire Tea Gold. I might even say that this tea is just as good (which might upset a few Yorkshire people), but I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s better, so given the choice between the two, the Yorkshire option definitely makes more sense right now. But we’re still going to enjoy these nevertheless, and they’re a welcome proper cup of tea over the Winter.

What I love about this pack is that it comes with 6 packs, each containing 70 tea bags, making it a total of 420 tea bags. That’s more than enough to last me for months! Plus, the packaging is compact and easy to store, making it a perfect addition to my pantry.
